There was once a farmer who owned two animals: a beautiful horse and a small goat. They shared the same field, the same air, and unknowingly… the same fate.
One day, the horse became very sick. Weak. Barely able to stand. Worried, the farmer called the veterinarian, who examined the horse carefully and then spoke with a serious tone.
“Your horse has a virus,” the vet said. “He needs to take this medicine for three days. I’ll come back on the third day. If he doesn’t improve, we’ll have no choice but to put him down. Otherwise, the virus could spread.”
Nearby, the goat heard every word.
The next day, the farmer gave the horse the medicine and walked away. The horse lay still, exhausted. That’s when the goat slowly walked over.
“Be strong, my friend,” the goat whispered. “You have to get up. If you don’t, they’re going to put you to sleep.”
The horse barely moved.
On the second day, the same thing happened. Medicine. Silence. Fear.
The goat returned, more desperate this time.
“Come on,” he begged. “Please get up. I’ll help you. One… two… three…”
Nothing.
By the third day, the vet returned. After checking the horse, he shook his head.
“I’m sorry,” he told the farmer. “Tomorrow we’ll have to put him down.”
When they left, the goat ran to the horse, panicked.
“This is it!” he cried. “It’s now or never! You have to try! Please! Get up! One… two… three!”
Suddenly… the horse moved.
Slowly.
Shakily.
Then he stood.
The goat jumped with joy. “Yes! That’s it! Now walk! Faster! Run!”
And the horse ran. Across the field. Strong. Alive. Free.
Moments later, the farmer returned, saw the horse running, and shouted, “It’s a miracle! He’s cured!”
But then… the story takes a dark turn.
The farmer turned to the vet and said,
“This is incredible. We should celebrate.”
Then he added quietly…
“Go get the goat. We’re having a party tonight.”
😳
Moral of the story:
Sometimes the ones who save others… pay the price.
And sometimes, doing the right thing doesn’t guarantee the right ending.
